IP/IT Case Study: A Legal Practitioner's Life at a Health Tech Startup

Innovative project idea

This course’s innovative potential stems from its interdisciplinary and hands-on approach. The interdisciplinarity is reflected not only in how the course is structured - by teaching both technical and legal aspects of creating and operating privacy-intrusive IT infrastructures within one course - but also in how legal topics are not covered in isolation. Rather, students are asked to understand a complex startup product, service and analyze the legal issues surrounding it, and learn how to connect their legal knowledge from different fields of law and apply it in the context of a realistic industry environment.

Benefits for students and teaching at UZH

In this course, participants have the opportunity to gain and apply interdisciplinary knowledge in the fields of law and technology. Thereby, students will not only foster their know-how in legal matters but apply their legal knowledge and creative problem-solving skills to a practical case. This course will prepare them for everyday challenges in the life of a legal practitioner and they will learn how to creatively solve problems in teams and present their work in a convincing manner.
