Universitäre Lehrförderung (ULF)

Fostering OMICS research through research based teaching and learning

Innovative project idea

Research is central to the distinctiveness, success, and sustainability of the UZH. It is essential for students to acquire early in their career, the capacity to ‘learn by doing’ and, ‘problem-solving’ to become well-rounded professionals which adapt to today's society. In order to foster a research-based education and development of critical thinking skills, we aim to design and hold a research-based teaching and learning block course for bachelor students, based on the expertise and the technologies at the FGCZ. This way they can develop research and expertise and critical thinking skills.

Benefits for students and teaching at UZH

Research-based teaching and learning (RBTL) enable universities to fulfill their mission to stimulate students to development of knowledge, insights, and skills they will need in studies and professional careers. Through RBTL we empower students’ learning by actively engaging them in the construction, interpretation and dissemination of knowledge. Furthermore, teaching staff is encouraged by teaching and interacting with students in their field of expertise. Thus, this is a genuine research experience that students cannot get outside of a state-of-the-art facility at a top research university.
