Visualize Your Science!

Innovative project idea

In this course, you will learn how to engage others in your research by grasping the fundamentals of visual communication, and how to apply them to the relevant types of scientific presentation (manuscript, poster, slides). First, you will learn the basics of science visualization, such as what draws the eye, while maintaining scientific integrity. You will then design and make your own figures, slides and posters, while learning the relevant techniques, software and tricks. We will challenge together each other’s work to bring everyone’s creation to perfection.

Benefits for students and teaching at UZH

With the increase in numbers of publications and the requirements for early career successes like poster prices, the ability to communicate your research clearly and accurately has become of great value and importance. Graphics play a fundamental part in this, but students receive little to no support in developing approachable visualizations. In this course we close that gap by demonstrating that there is science behind data visualization and how students can master is skill.
